Abstract

The development of science is inseparable from the evolution of the scientific method as a systematic way of acquiring, testing, and expanding knowledge. The shift in the scientific method has occurred through a long historical process involving the progression of thought from Ancient Greece, scientific thinking during the Islamic Golden Age, the Scientific Revolution, to the development of the philosophy of science in the modern era. This study aims to describe the development of the scientific method in science and to identify the philosophical shifts that underlie this evolution. Utilizing a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach, data were gathered through a review of relevant literature on science, scientific methodology, methodological development, and the philosophy of science. The data were analyzed by identifying, categorizing, comparing, and synthesizing key concepts found across these sources. The findings indicate that the scientific method evolved progressively, marked by shifts in how knowledge is acquired and validated. This progression encompasses the use of logical reasoning in the early stages, the emphasis on observation and experimentation, the development of inductive and deductive approaches, and the emergence of falsification concepts and paradigm shifts in modern science. Furthermore, the development of the scientific method is closely linked to ontological, epistemological, and axiological considerations, which are essential to understanding the nature, source, and value of scientific knowledge. Consequently, the scientific method has evolved in tandem with changes in how humans comprehend knowledge and the process of its formation
